Maltese Beauty
(M-Beauty)
This is the sweetest fig out of the 40+ figs I have fruited.
It is a super syrupy sweet fig that gets more complex with age.
I received this as a Maltese Beauty, and is normally sold under the name of Maltese Beauty, but some people call it Maltese Falcon. Most people in the trade and growing it refer it to be Maltese Beauty. Either way this is one amazing fig, it is the richest, sweetest figs you will ever taste. Possibly too sweet!
Photographed and Harvested May 23rd, 2022.
Main harvest from 5/3/22 - 5/28/22 of 15 figs.
Grown all Summer and produced figs in the Summer that were much thicker skinned and not as enjoyable.
Possibly my tree needed more consistent watering in the Summer time.
Photographed and Harvested 10/28/22 from grow room under LED lights.
Main Harvest from 10/22/22 - Still producing! Counted 48 more figs on tree in a 5 gallon pot!
Timeline (no dormancy for this Maltese Beauty tree)
1/26/21 started Maltese Beauty as a cutting.
4/21/21 Up potted into 1 gallon container
5/13/21 Moved fig tree Outside
6/20/21 Up potted into a 5 gallon container
10/23/21 Moved Fig tree inside under LED lights
11/15/21 First Maltese Beauty fig was ripe. (7 figs in first flush, very sweet, but watery, simple sugar flavor)
5/4/22 Moved Outside, Second flush started to ripen.
11 figs in second flush very sweet, complex after taste much better tasting.
Produced 8 more figs over the Summer not at the same time, most of them had tougher skin, inconsistent watering?
10/26/22 Brought inside under LED lights, third main flush of figs, 48 figs on tree in 5 gallon bucket.
Photographed plate full on 10/28/22. Some more ripe than others. When really ripe the figs are almost too sweet!
11/15/22 Still harvesting figs! There are 9 more size-able figs still on the tree.
