Ronde de Bordeaux
(RdB)
Ronde de Bordeaux
A small round French fig that is very early, has a very good berry taste. My favorite early fig, and my highest recommendation for growing in short growing seasons like Michigan.
RdB trees do not need an early start here in Michigan, simply over winter the pot inside of an attached garage so it does not freeze. It does have a larger eye, and people report that it has a tendency to split if over watered when the fruit is ripening. Cracks showing on the outer skin of figs is a good thing. It often indicate that the fig is extra tasty!
Overwintered in attached garage.
Pot set outside May 5th after last frost.
First 2 ripe figs Aug. 8th, can produce until too cold, often mid to late September. August figs taste better than late September figs.
