Black Madeira KK
(BMKK)
These photos were from my first fig on my Black Madeira KK. It was small and not the best but the only one I remembered to photograph.
People call this the "King of Figs" or "The best tasting fig".
It is a great fig, but hype is hype, and I expected something more exotic.
I had already fruited Preto many times, which is the exact same fig, just not as impressive as a name in the fig world.
Socorro Black, Bourjassotte Gris, Genovese Nero / I-258, Brogiotto Nero, and a few other black figs are also a bit similar in taste but not the same figs. Don't get me wrong, they are all great figs. Black Madeira has a fruity flavor and is sweet and can become thick and syrupy when ripened under great conditions. I truly prefer some other black figs like, I-258 / Genovese Nero which can get a good wine flavor at times. Bass's Favorite fig which is much more impressive in size and a nice sweet flavor. I also love CLBC which is sweet, but not as syrupy sweet, more dense and hearty than a Black Madeira.
This was the first Black Madeira KK that I ripened. It was ripened indoors, and it was on the small side, but it instantly reminded me of Preto and so many other great late producing figs. I will have to take some better photos.
