Violet de Bordeaux types
(VdB Figs)
Violet de Bordeaux type fig trees come from the Bordeaux region of France. They are a rich tasting berry flavor with a dark purple skin and red pulp interior. They often have little spots on the dark skin that look like stars in a darken sky. They are considered a Mid Season producing fig which means they are very late here in Michigan. They benefit by having an early start under lights or in a green house. They do produce a good tasting breba fig. I am lucky if I can get any VdB type main figs to ripen without head start here in Michigan.
